The top 10 lists for writers and authors to follow on Twitter

If you’re a writer you will almost certainly have a blog and a Twitter account because let’s face it, Twitter and blogging were built with writers and authors in mind. Sometimes though it may seem as if you are writing into the wind, with your words drifting off into the distance without catching on anything or anyone at all. However, there is always something you can do about things like this and I thought I might start with a rundown of the top ten writers lists to follow on Twitter.

You may well be asking why writers lists and not writers themselves?

Well, Twitter is a notoriously busy place to be and I’ll bet you have a million other things to do in your day without spending a whole load of time looking for the key influencers that could have the biggest effect on your online marketing and awareness-building activities. And, it doesn’t make sense to try and reinvent the wheel if someone has already done the hard work for you.

The Twitter accounts that are added to the lists below will already have been vetted by the curator for content and appropriateness. It is I grant you, their own opinion but hey, you don’t always have to agree with them and you don’t have to keep up with everyone they have listed either. But this is the way to get ideas from some of those who are recognised to be the biggest names on Twitter in this particular area.

You can follow any of the lists that are shared below simply by clicking on the name, logging into your Twitter account and then clicking the subscribe button you will find in the left-hand panel of the screen.  Once you are subscribed to a list you will be able to keep a track of updates from those listed by going to your own profile and selecting ‘lists’ from the left-hand menu. Alternatively, you can stream them into something like HootSuite.
