I was sent this by a very good friend of mine, Anthea, who lives in Oz …..!

“Some people come into our lives and quickly go.. Some people become friends and stay awhile…. leaving beautiful footprints on our hearts and we are never quite the same because we have made a good friend!!”

It reminded me of that other oft quoted poem:-

“People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime.
When you figure out which one it is, you will know what to do for each person.

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed.
They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally, or spiritually.
They may seem like a godsend, and they are!
They are there for the reason you need them to be.
Then, without any wrongdoing on your part, or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end.
Sometimes they die.
Sometimes they walk away.
Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand.
What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done.
The prayer you sent up has been answered. And now it is time to move on.

Then people come into your life for a SEASON, because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn.
They bring you an experience of peace, or make you laugh.
They may teach you something you have never done.
They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy.
Believe it! It is real! But, only for a season.

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons:
things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation.
Your job is to accept the lesson,
love the person,
and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life.”

I wonder which you are to me?

Yesterday is history.
Tomorrow a mystery.
Today is a gift.
That’s why it’s called the present!
Live and savour every moment… This is not a dress rehearsal!

  1. I understand what you mean Richard, life is a journey and we have many choices to make along the way and sometimes we have friends to help us along, even if they aren’t aware they are doing so at the time. It would be so nice to be able to know in the instant – but life wouldn’t be such a joy if we knew everything that was going to happen in advance.

I do know that I have/had friends that fall into all three categories and that my life wouldn’t be as rich as it is now, without having had them in my life; but you are quite right, it is only with hindsight I can look back and see those friendships for what they were and how they have given me something I could never have received without those people.

  2. That’s a nice blog you have there Linda.
    Thought provoking…….

Lifes a journey, and you start off with a certain direction, but there are all kinds of influences on exactly ‘where’ your path will take you.

The article seems to be assuming that the other party may have a pre-conceived agenda? Surely, it’s a time and place thing, synchronicity maybe? Who knows where our friends will lead us, who will stay, or who will decide to get off? It’s only in hindsight that you are able to label your friends isn’t it?
