Meeting Sonia Frontera, author of Solve the Divorce Dilemma: Do You Keep Your Husband or Do You Post Him on Craigslist?

I’d like to introduce Sonia Frontera, author of Solve the Divorce Dilemma: Do You Keep Your Husband or Do You Post Him on Craigslist? Sonia draws from her education and vast personal and professional experience as a wife, attorney and empowerment trainer, to bring women a message of hope, possibility and joy. Sonia is a family attorney with a private practice in New Jersey.

What is one thing people wouldn’t usually know about you?

Most people in my current incarnation do not know I studied journalism in college. I have been practicing law for so long that people are surprised that being a writer was my lifetime dream. Heck, they didn’t even know I could write!

What did your best review say about your work?

A common thread in my reviews is that the advice provided is helpful to other areas of life besides divorce. It is very rewarding to know you can inspire your readers live their best lives.

How did you choose a title for your book?

I chose the title of my book over the strenuous objections of my editor. But I thought I needed something shocking to get attention to my book in the overcrowded divorce genre. “Do You Keep Your Husband or Do You Post Him on Craigslist?” was initially just the title of the chapter about making the divorce decision. It stems from an old song they used to play when I was growing up in Puerto Rico that said that, if something bothered you, put a “For Sale” sign on it. In the 21st century, you post things you don’t want on Craigslist. I’m glad I picked this title because it cracks people up!

Have you ever wished you could do, or be, something else?

Does being a better version of myself count? My definition of empowerment is feeling good in your own skin, so wanting to be something or someone else is not an option for me. I strive to become the best “me” possible and to experience life fully in every moment, without regrets.

What is the biggest challenge you faced when writing your book?

Overcoming self-doubt. I had wanted to write a book for years and wondered all along if this was a foolish pursuit. But I’m glad I stuck it out. When I felt discouraged I kept reminding myself that I was writing this book to help women who were suffering in the same situation I found myself years ago. The goal of providing the support I wish I had received when I was on the fence kept me going.

Do you have any hints or tips for aspiring writers?

Don’t give up. You have a message for the world that only you can deliver. Self-expression is one of the highest forms of empowerment.

Where do you find your inspiration?

I am very lucky that inspiration finds me… Ideas flow to me at the most unsuspecting times and places. I guess it comes from having a mind that is open to possibility. Very often ideas surface at 4 am or while taking a shower or walking in nature. There is no rhyme or reason to it and it’s exhilarating!

Have you ever had to learn a new skill or trick, or attempted an impossible feat to finish your work?

Oh, yes! The most fascinating part of indie publishing is doing your marketing, book publicity, social media, etc. There are so many interesting things to learn I feel jazzed all the time–except when I’m overwhelmed by it all!

Which book would you like to have written?

“The Little Prince.” It is my favourite book in the world. I feel a deep connection to it and to the author since I first read it at the age of 12. The characters fascinate me and the wisdom encoded in this children’s fable is mind-blowing. I’ve read it dozens of times and I always find a nugget of wisdom I hadn’t noticed before.

Tea, coffee, water, juice, beer, wine or ‘other’ – what do you prefer when writing?

Wine, of course!
