Meeting Collette Yvonne, author of The Perils of Pauline

Welcome to the Thursday Throng, and this week I’d like to welcome Collette Yvonne, the author of the Perils of Pauline to the hotseat.

The Collette Yvonne Interview

collette yvonneWhat is one thing that no-one would usually know about you?

I like to make up random stuff when I answer surveys and questionnaires.

What did the best review you ever had say about you and your work?

I liked the Depends-sponsored review I got from Amazon reviewer Julie Failla Earhart who wrote, “You'll laugh so hard you'll wet yourself.” She went on to say, “It may be colder than a well-digger’s can outside, but inside, I’ve come across the first must-read novel that will make perfect beach (or couch cozy if the thermometer continues to fall) read.” I’ll Snoopy-dance for any review that uses the words “perfect,” “must-read” and “well-digger’s can.”

What did the worst review you ever had say about you and your work?

On second thought, Julie Failla Earhart’s, “You’ll laugh so hard you’ll wet yourself.” It’s hard to unsee the image of my readers sitting on the couch in their bulky underwear protection while reading my book.

Are the names of your characters important to you?

When the tile of your novel is The Perils of Pauline then …

Are there any occupational hazards to being an author?

Writing interferes with my chocolate lounging.

Have you ever wished that you could be or do anything else instead of writing, and if so what?

Not really. I sure wouldn’t want to go back to the kinds of jobs I did during my college years. One summer I landed a gig in a factory installing the crotch section in men’s bathing suits. I wasn’t very good at it and only lasted about 6 days on the production line. I just hope some unfortunate guy didn’t experience a sudden catastrophic failure of his new swim trunks because of me.

Who would you like to play you in a film of your life?

Tina Fey. The “Sisters” version please, not the Sarah Palin.

What is the best excuse you have ever come up with for missing a deadline?

I need some creative new ideas actually. I’m working on:

  • A skunk broke into my house and sprayed-bombed my computer.
  • My kid downloaded the “Computer is Lava” virus by accident.
  • My great aunt, who was like a second mother to me, died and I am busy looking for new homes for her 15 cats.

Are there any habits you wish you didn’t have?

I have to read in bed so I can get to sleep at night. Usually I fall asleep with the book propped on my nose and the light still on. After a while the light wakes me up so, to get sleepy again, I go back to reading. Then I fall asleep again with the light on. Then I wake up again. This can go on for hours.
