Meet Ray East, author of VOLUSPA – A Magical World in The Thursday Throng Author

Today, I’d like to welcome Ray East to the Author Interviewees’ chair with her co-authored YA novel ‘VOLUSPA- A Magical World‘. This is a YA Fantasy Romance for ages 10 and upwards and according to the author, if you think ‘Harry Potter meets Twilight’ you probably won’t go far wrong. Ray is also offering a free, signed copy to one lucky commenter on this blog, so don’t forget to make sure you get your foot in the door before Christmas!

According to Amazon “Amy, a forlorn fifteen year old girl from NYC, never thought that she would attend school on a magical mountain with wild animals as her classmates and that she would go to a prom on a flying carpet. Its love at first sight when Drake- a shape shifter rescues her from a pre-historic beast and befriends her. Little does she know that Drake’s father is the tyrannical leader who has always wanted Amy and her kind dead. In her struggle to challenge the supremacy in the magical world, she realizes her powers, confronts aspects about herself that she may not be comfortable with, makes lasting friends while excelling in her school – something which she had not been able to do in her human world. All hell breaks loose, as Drake goes missing and Voluspan mercenaries try to hunt Amy down. Amy and her friends use strategic warfare, pit adversaries among themselves and use every last drop of strength, skill and courage as they take on warriors far more ruthless and skilled than themselves. But Amy is in for a rude shock when she finally finds Drake.

Hi Ray and welcome to the Thursday Throng interview. My first question is ‘What is one thing that no-one would usually know about you?

As a child I was a terrible introvert and used to stutter till the fourth grade.

What did the best review you ever had say about you and your work?

“Well written & you’ll not want to put it down!”

What did the worst review you ever had say about you and your work?

“Odd writing style and the book gets interesting only after the first chapter.”

How did you choose a title for your book?

The name ‘Voluspa’ was derived from an old Nordic poem and both I and my co-author liked the name and decided to name the magical realm after it.

Have you ever wished that you could be or do anything else instead of writing, and if so what?

A vet. I love animals.

Do you have any hints or tips for aspiring writers?

Write a good book; put your best work out there. Identify your target audience, find ways to engage them and market your book intelligently. I am not saying that you should go bankrupt while marketing your book. It is said that a successful book is 10% writing a book and 90% excellent marketing.

Where do you find your inspiration?

My stories are my way of connecting with the younger generation. Getting feedback from a young reader telling me that she/ he completely related to my character, that’s the best inspiration.

  1. All the giveaways on my blog are international, otherwise there’s not much point in doing them and you are in the draw too 🙂

  2. Lovely to meet you, Ray! I enjoyed your interview and have downloaded a Kindle sample of your book. I’m a ‘co-author’ too, so we have that in common, as well as writing fantasy! 🙂
Thanks for the interview, Linda. 🙂
