Meet Kai Nicole, author of Date Like a Woman

This week I’d like to introduce you to Kai Nicole, the author of Date Like a Woman.

What is one thing people wouldn’t usually know about you?

That I’m an introvert.

What did the best review you ever had say about your work?

That my book, Date Like A Woman, not only helps single women, but that it is helpful to married women too.

What did the worst review you ever had say about your work?

A millennial reviewer was disappointed because my book did not provide more information about how to date online. Personal interactions make dating better. The millennial reviewer missed that point in my book. Most millennials believe in online dating but the reviewer failed to understand that online dating is actually the cause of many of their dating woes. Millennials will have much better dating experiences when they learn how to actually engage and date in person.

Are there any occupational hazards to being an author?

Yes, people get to critique your work.

Do you think there is any elitism attached to the different book genres?

Yes. The major publishers are gatekeepers to new authors and no longer seek out great talent but instead publish only those who are already popular, even if they are not writers.

Have you ever written naked?

Close, I wrote most of my book in a bikini on an island.

Never take critiques personally.

What was the most important thing you learned at school?

I’ve attended a lot of schools. Undergrad is where I learned that you should just explore as much as possible. Law school taught me the importance of understanding legal systems and how they work and influence society.

What is your favourite film or TV moment of all time?

One of my favorite films is Spike Lee’s “School Daze.” It dealt with young Black Americans at a Black college having to grapple with overlapping issues of social justice, internalized racism, and social status.

Are there any habits you wish you didn’t have, and if so what are they?

It is not a habit, however, I am bad at remembering people’s names, really bad.
