An interview with Terry Coffey, author of Valley of the Kings: The 18th Dynasty

Hi Everyone and this week it’s the turn of Terry Coffey to sit in the Thursday Throng hot seat. His debut novel, *Valley of the Kings: The 18th Dynasty*, was not only selected for publication by Kindle Scout, but also won the 2016 Pacific Book Award for best historical fiction.

What is one thing that no-one would usually know about you?

That I use to compose and sing commercial jingles.

What is the single biggest challenge you faced when writing your book?

The single biggest challenge for me was trying to make sure that none of my passages was boring. The one question I kept asking myself throughout the writing of each chapter was will this bore the reader? And if I thought it might, I would rewrite it.

Do you have any hints or tips for aspiring writers?

Yes, I would say finish the book you’ve started or start writing the book that’s been locked in your head. There is no feeling more satisfying than knowing that you have accomplished a major feat like writing a book!

What has been the best experience you have ever had in your life?

Hearing one of my jingles played on radio and television and after that, I would say holding a finished copy of my novel in my hands for the first time.

Do you have any favorite resources you would like to share with our readers?

Since most new writers like me struggle to get reviews for our books, I have found that Bookrazor has proven to be the most valuable resource for me. Using their service has helped me acquire many more reviews than I could have ever garnered on my own.

Are there any habits you wish you didn’t have?

I do have this habit of handwriting each chapter in a notebook before I input it into my MS Word document. I’m sure it adds unnecessary time to the writing process but I don’t feel right unless I do it.
