drink more water

7 day drink more water challenge

I know I don’t drink enough water during the day, particularly when I’m working. I set out with the best of intentions to do so, but even with the glass at my side I forget it’s there because I’m so absorbed in what I’m doing. And sometimes, it can be 2 or 3 hours before I suddenly realise I’m thirsty.

Water is essential for our health and well-being. It affects everything about our bodies because they are made up of significant amounts of water. It’s one of the reasons people can go without food for several days, but they can’t go without water.

For example, lack of water affects our weight as our bodies will hold on to it, in fact it’s slightly ironic that the more you drink the more weight you can lose. It affects our tissues, cells, blood, bones and our vital organs; and it can even affect our brains and ability to think clearly.

Of course it does depend on what you drink and that’s why I’m advocating water as it’s pretty neutral in most countries. Back in the day, at least in the UK, the majority of people drank what was called ‘small beer‘, a heavily watered down beer, because the water wasn’t as a safe as it is now. And today, in many parts of the world, the water is still not safe to be drunk so other prepared drinks are preferable.

But, if you are in a country where the water supply is safe then it’s probably better for you in this particular challenge than say coffee, tea or alcohol as they are all diruetics and will cause your body to lose more water than it stores. And, it’s definitely better for you than carbonated drinks as they are laden with sugar and/or other additives.

The challenge

In my quest for greater health and happiness I set up this challenge to see if I could combine the two into an activity. The challenge is to drink at least 8 glasses of water daily over the course of a week. as well as your usual beverages. I’ve created a free printable you can download and print out just to keep track through the week.

And here’s the challenge, at the same time as drinking your glass of water I’d like you try holding a positive emotion. The aim is to super-charge the water so that you benefit twice; physically because you’re supporting your body, and secondly emotionally as you think about what positive emotions feel like to you.

It’s important to remember that everyone will have a different experience of this activity and there is no right way to do it, just your way. I’ve suggested emotions for each drink of the day on the printable, but you can change these if they don’t suit you; perhaps choosing one emotion to hold for the whole day, or different emotions. It’s entirely up to you.

And, finally, I’d love to know what, if anything, happens for you. You can leave a comment below or on the Facebook page if you prefer.

Good luck and have fun

  1. Thank you for posting this Linda. I have been thinking of your 7 Day water challenge – an excellent idea! I have decided to amplify it by adding charging crystals to the water, and thought you might like to know. Positive thoughts are good too!
