February 2025 Newsletter – updating the writing shed

If you’ve been around here for a while you will have noticed that my blog is hosted by Substack, rather than here on my website. The reason I do this is because it’s the perfect way to write long-form posts that go automatically to my Substack subscribers.

Since moving to Substack I’ve made some big changes on a reasonably regular basis, these posts were usually titled ‘All change’, and were where I announced the latest thing I was interested in or going to write about. However, since 2022, when the move from WordPress to Substack took place I have also realised that trying to combine everything into a single space was not working as I’d hoped it would. In fact, it made it more difficult because I was trying to be too many things to too many people and, although I still have a healthy subscriber count who largely read what is sent out, there is now very little engagement in the form of comments, which was my primary aim.

With all that in mind, I have once again shouted ‘All change’ by dividing my Substack in two, calling the second Wolf Moon. Practically, this means that The Writing Shed is now focused solely on writers and writing. I have restarted my weekly writing prompts, but without all the other distractions I’d added in, mostly for myself but to no-one else’s benefit. I’ve also started writing regularly about the business of being a writer and most of these posts can be found on the Writerly Business page or my Social Media Refusniks Guide to Book Marketing.

Wolf Moon by contrast will feature essays and posts about topics and subjects that interest me or I think might be of benefit to anyone else who reads them. They will not contain anything of direct relevance to writers, but writers are often readers, so you never know! In its nascent form there are three broad themes emerging: Everything is Connected, and I will copy the original three essays over to Wolf Moon; Health and Medicine, again some of my original essays and thoughts are being brought over and updated; and finally, Digital Wisdom, where I will also include the original essays and my Tales of t’Internet fairy tales.

It’s been a busy month or so getting this all sorted and set up, and now it’s done I’m a lot happier about how things will work. In some ways, I shouldn’t have to compartmentalise like this, but in others it’s definitely the right thing to do – and it makes it easier for me to know what should be where and when!

If any of the above interests you, follow the links and see what takes your fancy.

With love, light and laughter
